New police officer sought for Mathoura

MATHOURA residents are being assured they will have a new police officer soon.

The assurance comes after the town was left without a police presence after Senior Constable Chris Mathew left to take up a post elsewhere a few weeks ago.

A NSW Police Southern Region spokesperson said the position for a constable at the one-man police station was being advertised.

“The recruitment process is currently under way and the role is expected to be filled shortly,” the spokesperson said.

“While this process is under way, officers from Moama and Deniliquin Police Station have been tasked with policing duties in the town of Mathoura.”

Sen Const Mathew, who was the officer-in-charge of Mathoura Police Station for six years, has obtained a new posting on the south coast.

He and wife Jacinta and their children Parker, Hugh, Seth and Isla have been involved in the local community during the past six years.
