Detective Sergeant Brendon Murphy of Echuca Criminal Investigation Unit said thieves broke into a rural property at Murray Valley Hwy, Koyuga, between 8pm on Wednesday and 7pm on Thursday.
‘‘They have forced entry to the victim’s garage and stolen a gun safe containing about nine firearms,’’ he said.
‘‘The offenders would definitely have had to have a vehicle, a trailer or something similar, as the gun safe was of considerable size and weight.
‘‘Obviously it’s a concern for us as we don’t like guns out in the community in the wrong hands.’’
Det. Sgt Murphy said police carried out a scientific examination of the scene today.
‘‘We are appealing for help and would urge anyone with information to come forward,’’ he said.
If anyone has information, they can contact Echuca police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
