Proud moment as Davison tackles full course

By Vivienne Duck

IT’S been a long wait for Echuca’s Charlette Davison.

For years she has skied on Saturday, then sat back on Sunday while the rest of the family took part in the event.
Not this year.

With the creation of the Under 12 Girls Expert class, Davison finally had the opportunity to take on the full course.

Behind Elm St F2, an all-Echuca team of Davison and Ruby Carne broke ground for the sport as the second team out of the blocks in the category.

‘‘I’m tired,’’ she said when she finally returned to Vic Park.

‘‘It was a long race,’’ laughed mum and observer Carlie.

‘‘It was good being out there, certain parts of the course were a bit choppy, but other than that we had a pretty good run down the river,’’ Charlette said.

Carlie said she was proud of the teams effort.

‘‘Bloody oath I’m proud of them,’’ she said.

‘‘We only set out the goal to finish the race. It wasn’t a question of how long we took to get there, it was simply a case of finishing. We took a break midway through the race as one of the girls needed to recover a bit, but we continued on, and we got through the race in the end and that was really all that mattered.’’

Elm St was one of the final boats to cross the finish line in the morning session, but for the up and coming skiers, just getting there was enough.
