Defence works hard for ’Pies

By Riverine Herald

Netball

U11s

Moama travelled to Nathalia in the under 11 netball competition.

The girls went out hard, with some quick goals from the Magpies’ shooters getting the side off to a cracking start.

With a full bench, everyone was rotated through giving the side fresh legs all game.

The team had some great passages of play from end to end as they spread out.

Excellent game girls.

Awards: Stephanie (Gravity Shack best on court), Morgan (Bennetts Intersport coaches award).

U13s

Fantastic win by the U13s.

Strong play from all players with great defensive work and smart attacking.

Awards: Halle Power (Paramount Theatre best on court), Mia Healy (Kennedy Farms coaches award).

U15s

The U15s were off to a great start through disciplined play, strong drives.

There was excellent defensive pressure from Abbey and Bronte, as well as great movement around the ring by Leah and Eden.

The second half went a little off the rails with hurried passes, but the girls fought hard until the end to run out two point winners.

U17s

The U17s played consistent, controlled netball today to take the win.

Individual challenges resulted in plenty of intercepts and rebounds, strong drives, controlled footwork and discipline play around the rings.

C Grade

Strong first quarter, led all game.

Awards: Stacey Hope (Shamrock Hotel best on court), Belle Patterson (Imy & Co coaches award).

Football

U12s Moama White

Fantastic game played out in Moama on Friday night, with Moama White taking on Leitchville-Gunbower.

Moama laid the pressure on right from the first bounce kicking the first goal.

They never really looked like losing control of the game from there.

Zade Maschewski showed some great attacking pressure, with Fred Peat providing a good marking option up forward.

Bit of a change around at half time saw some boys fresh from defence up forward.

Lochie Patterson had a great game, showing some exciting skills to look forward to in the future.

Lochy Barlow and Alex Donchi kept the game moving with excellent team work and Oliver Wright stood out again this week.

Fantastic game, looking forward to next week.

U14s — MFL

Frosty conditions greeted the young Magpies as they made the trip to Nathalia.

A fast start by the Magpies was impressive, playing a wonderful brand of football.

Hudson was on fire early, taking several strong marks around the ground as he presented strongly from centre half forward.

Jobe was lively early on the wing, providing plenty of opportunities for our forwards.

A slow paced second quarter saw a tight and even contest with both teams going hard at the footy.

Jye was providing plenty of run from half back while Lachie worked hard in the middle to maintain possession.

The third quarter saw Nathalia kick away, scoring four goals while Moama slipped back into their shell.

A half time change saw Jonte move from full forward to full back and play an excellent defensive game.

The final quarter saw Moama’s desire for the football return, putting in a solid quarter to finish the game well.
