FIFA has been widely lambasted by fan groups for the high prices yet Trump has normally sided with the federation's president Gianni Infantino in the run-up to the expanded tournament.
But after being told by the New York Post that tickets to the United States' opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles could hit $1000, Trump could see the supporters' point.
"I did not know that number. I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn't pay it either, to be honest with you," he was quoted as saying on Thursday.
Infantino had defended the ticket prices this week, saying some World Cup tickets were on offer for less than it costs to see a US college game.
Trump, though, wants working-class fans to have the chance to see games.
"I would have to take a look at it," he said.
"If people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can't go, I would be disappointed, but, you know, at the same time, it's an amazing success.
"I would like to be able to have the people that voted for me to be able to go."
