The Redeyes were simply no match for the minor premiers, being kept goalless by a much bigger Hoppers’ outfit.
Final score, Rennie 20.11 (131) to Blighty 0.1 (1).
Blighty coach Matt Dudley said their 20 goal loss could not take away from the way the team has ‘‘jelled together’’ and he is excited for the 2020 season.
‘‘It was great experience for our boys and girl who made it to the prelim finals, especially being such a young side with just four top age players,’’ he said.
‘‘They played well and were able to find out exactly what footy finals mean which is something they will take into the next season and grow on the experience.’’
Dudley said the side never gave up, even against a ‘‘slick’’ Rennie side who are now headed to the final.
‘‘They went really well and had a never say die effort,’’ he said.
‘‘Rennie has remained unbeaten all year so I am proud that our team put in 100 per cent effort.’’
Dean Macdonald, Henry Michael, Seth Morris, Jack Murray, Max Caruso and Will Dudley were all identified as the standout players of the day by their coach.
‘‘They were the top players because they really put in 100 per cent effort,’’ Dudley said.
‘‘But as I said, the whole team worked hard and combined well together.’’
Dudley said the support from the club and families had topped off a great season.
‘‘I appreciate all of the help and support for the kids, it has been fantastic.
‘‘We have had an excellent year and I can’t wait to see these kids return for the 2020 season.’’
