Walk to School program comes to Echuca-Moama

By Charmayne Allison

LOCALS are encouraged to walk, ride or scoot to school this month as part of VicHealth's Walk to School program.

Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said many local schools had registered for the health promotion foundation’s annual program which kicked off on October 7.

The program aims to help build kids' confidence, self-esteem and social skills, while also promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

Participating schools have the opportunity to win a footy clinic led by an AFL or AFLW player.

“In this digital age – walking, riding or scooting is a fun, free and easy way for kids to stay active and healthy,” Mr Gepp said.

“I encourage parents and carers to support their kids and each other, to take part in the Walk to School 2019 program – it’s a great way to teach them the benefits of being active and see their confidence and independence grow.”
