A fundraiser aimed at social drinkers, Dry July challenges participants to go alcohol-free for 31 days, or a specific 14 or 21-day section of the month.
KDHS health promotion co-ordinator Danae Rush said the campaign was a great opportunity for people to improve their health as well as contribute to a great cause.
“Two-hundred-and-sixty new cancer cases are diagnosed in the Campaspe Shire every year; 53 per cent of cases are diagnosed in males and 74 per cent are in persons over 60 years,” Ms Rush said.
“Staff at KDHS have set up the team Kyabram Health and are asking the community to donate and help raise funds for cancer patients.
“If people would like to donate to the team all they have to do is go to www.dryjuly.com, search ‘Kyabram Health’ and click ‘donate’.”
Since 2008, Dry July has inspired more than 200,000 Australians to go dry, raising $49 million for people affected by cancer, and funding projects at more than 80 cancer organisations across Australia.
