The presentations of the 2019-20 Kyabram and District Sportstar of the Year awards have been put on hold.
Normally they are awarded at a gala function at the Kyabram Club in May each year, but due to the coronavirus crisis they have been postponed to at least August.
Sportstar secretary Trish Bradley said if the awards night went ahead in August it may be trimmed down, if social distancing was still in force, but that everything was still very much up in the air and would be governed by political guidelines.
‘‘We’ll just have to see how it works at the moment and make decisions on what we can do or not do depending on what is happening at the time,” Ms Bradley said.
‘‘If any social distancing was still in force we have to look at trimming down the awards night in regards to award winners and attendees.
Ms Bradley said the availability of this year’s intended guest speaker, Kyabram raised former AFL football star Brett Deledio, could now be in doubt with the change of dates for the awards night.
‘‘Brett was set to go if it was on this month but we don’t (know) how he’ll be situated for another date so we will just have to work through that with him and hopefully he can fit in,’’ Ms Bradley said.
The Sportstar of the Year awards have been running for 45 years under various banners and sponsors, where the district’s best performed athletes are recognised for their feats over a 12 month period.
