Cenotaph walls develop lean

CAMPASPE Shire council placed temporary fencing around the Echuca Cenotaph on August 15 due to structural concerns with the memorial walls surrounding the cenotaph itself.

Infrastructure services general manager Richard Conway said the temporary fencing had been placed to protect the community and minimise any risk should the walls fall.

"It has come to our attention that some of the walls surrounding the cenotaph have a significant lean," Mr Conway said.

"We will now engage a structural engineer to assess the walls and provide advice on options available to rectify the problem."

The Echuca RSL has been advised of the situation and the urgency to install temporary fencing to protect the community.
