And Isaiah Firebrace did just that.
Stardom didn't let him forget his roots, however, and he's coming back home.
Growing up in Moama as one of 12 children, Isaiah is coming to the twin towns on September 3 to meet students from a number of schools in hopes of inspiring them.
After plucking up the courage to give stardom a crack at the age of 16, he went on a life-changing journey through the stages of the 8th season of X-Factor.
But he didn't just take part, he won the thing.
Since then, Isaiah has released a self-titled album that peaked at number 12 on the Australian album charts and represented the country in the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev in 2017, finishing ninth overall.
He has also appeared on TV programs such as Have You Been Paying Attention and Get Krack!n.
Students from Echuca Primary School and St Joseph's College will get a chance to meet the star on the day.
He will be having an inspirational chat about his life, music and how he never gave up on his dream.
His aim is to encourage the children to follow their own dreams.
He will also be treating the St Joseph's students to a performance of his new single.
So if you want to meet Isaiah, he will be at Echuca Primary at 11.30am and St Joseph's from 1.25pm.
