CFA units took less than 30 minutes to take control of a grassfire that started along McKenzie Rd towards Kyabram this afternoon.
Around 14 trucks from Echuca, Tongala and Rochester worked hard to get the fire under control.
The blaze was believed to be started by a trailer being towed down the road when its axle broke and was dragged along the bitumen, sending sparks into dry grass on the roadside.
Senior Constable Scott Newton was first on the scene and ruled the fire to be accidental.
Flames could be seen in a nearby paddock as well as close to the road, but oncoming traffic was kept at a safe distance.
Units stayed at the scene to ensure there were no flareups from hotspots.
A CFA spokesman again cautioned people about the ease with which fires can be started as we go through another week of high temperatures and winds.
