Campaspe Shire Council has adopted an updated policy for tourism ride operators which allows for bike hire, pedicab tours, motorbikes, historic vehicles as well as the current horse-drawn carriage.
The policy previously only incorporated horse-drawn carriage rides and required a permit from the council for businesses to operate outside of 10am to 5pm, however the updated policy allows for vehicles and carriages to operate until 9pm before needing a permit.
The Port of Echuca precinct includes from east of the onion patch to the Campaspe River in the west, the Murray riverfront to Crofton St to the north and Heygarth St to the south.
Councillors considered the policy as part of a larger policy review.
“The councillors have spent a lot of time reviewing the work that staff have done to ensure that our policies are stating what will give the community good guidance,” Cr Vicki Neele said.
“If people are interested they can see the changes on the agenda and I’m very happy to move this.”
