ERH marks International Nurses Day

ECHUCA Regional Health will mark International Nurses Day on Tuesday.

The World Health Organisation has also designated 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife in honour of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale on May 12.

ERH executive director of nursing director June Dyson said it was an important day to recognise, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Over the past few months, we have seen the value of nurses across the globe, working together to try and contain this deadly virus while caring for those people who have been so badly affected,” she said.

“Tragically, many of our overseas colleagues have paid the ultimate price and we will take a moment on this day to honour their service and sacrifice.

“We had planned a big celebration this year which has unfortunately been put on hold due to COVID-19.

“We will however mark the event with a few fun activities, recognising the amazing contribution ERH nurses make every day and in particular the way they have all stepped up during this challenging period.”
