DJ Angelo, who will be performing at Rock by the River, explained the event’s musical focus.
“It is a combination of rock and roll, old school rock and roll, ’50s mainly, early ’60s,” he said.
Whether you're a seasoned mover or a complete beginner, the festival warmly welcomes dancers of all abilities and experience levels.
“We have started introducing some partner and line dancing for couples that still want to keep active but can't rock and roll any more, because of aches and pains,” DJ Angelo said.
DJ Angelo is quick to set himself apart from the crowd when it comes to his musical style.
“I'm not like most DJs, who keep playing the same thing all the time,” he said.
“I like to change my music regularly.
“I also dance, so I know what people dance to, what beat is needed.
“If the dancefloor is empty and you want to get people up, songs like High Class Lady (The Lennerockers), Matchbox (Carl Perkins), Burning Love by Elvis, all those really thumpy songs get them going.”

The festival draws enthusiastic participants from right across Victoria and NSW, proof, as DJ Angelo puts it, that “rock and rollers will travel if there is a good festival going on”.
“I've never seen anybody go to a festival or a dance and sit there all night without getting a dance,” he said.
“You’ve got to be comfortable on the dance floor, and you don't want to be stepping on somebody’s toes with a heel.
“The venue has probably got one of the best dance floors around.”
