EV chargers, a mayoral election and a historic footbridge on the agenda for Murray River Council

Murray River Council will vote to decide who will lead council for the remainder of its four-year term on Tuesday.

Councillors will elect a mayor and deputy mayor at an extraordinary meeting in before MRC’s September 22 meeting begins later in the day.

At the monthly meeting, Mayor John Harvie will call for council to form a water advisory committee and support a campaign to overturn the decision to end the Murray and Murrumbidgee national parks’ Riverina Domestic Firewood Collection programs.

MRC will look to confirm administrative plans, including meeting dates for 2027 and the motions council delegates will bring to the NSW local government conference.

Other items include the installation of EV charging points throughout the LGA, a grant application for the Moulamein Courthouse Footbridge, and the adoption of the final Koraleigh Recreation Reserve Masterplan.

Cr Kylie Berryman will bring a motion calling for a report to look into potentially giving ratepayers who pay their annual rates and charges by a specified due date a discount.

Cr Geoff Wise will bring a motion calling for changes to development applications to make it easier for residents living on primary production land to construct sheds.
