The open days are held by members of the local heritage group Friends of Old Moama, which cares for the historical site.
From photographs to memorabilia and posters, there are stacks of historical treasures to see.
“Most people come and have a look at the actual building because they can’t believe its still standing,” Friends of Old Moama member Sue Shaw said.
“Because it was built in 1870.”
Objects in the River Captain’s Cottage now form part of the Collections and their Keepers trail, a photographic exhibition that extends across four local museums and was launched on December 3, 2025.
The trail, developed over several years, houses historical collections in each museum and honours the volunteers who preserve their stories.
The open days are on Sunday, February 8 and Sunday, March 8 from 10am to noon at the River Captain’s Cottage, Chanter St, Moama.
If you’re looking to get involved and become a member of the Friends of Old Moama, head along to their meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at 10am to find out more.
