Starting Monday, October 11, through until November 7, council’s resource recovery centres will take household garden organic waste for free.
Council’s general manager community Keith Oberin said it was an opportune time to clean up around the home.
“Household green waste will be accepted free of charge at any of the eight resource recovery centres - Colbinabbin, Echuca, Gunbower, Kyabram (Mt Scobie), Lockington, Rochester, Rushworth and Toolleen,” he said.
“We strongly encourage residents to take their garden spring clean to one of these centres during the exempt period.
“Reducing potential fire risks can be as simple as clearing long grass or removing dead trees and leaves.
“Council’s annual program is a perfect reminder for the community that it’s time to think ‘fire smart’.”
Potential fire risks, such as overgrown vacant blocks could be reported to council by calling 1300 666 535.
