As a young woman involved in women’s cricket, netball umpiring, community theatre and now with two years of experience as a councillor, I understand how important our communities and social circles are in a rural area.
We can shape a better politics that provides the public services that properly support people to live good and meaningful lives.
Right now, our local communities are paying the price – literally – of politics which has done nothing to improve our basic circumstances, make essential goods and services more affordable or accessible, lower bills, or provide social housing.
The politics of division won’t provide the solutions our area desperately needs.
I’m fighting for a Murray Plains which is affordable, and where elected representatives put people before profit.
My campaign with the Greens is people powered – we’re community funded, and unlike the other parties, don’t take donations from the same big corporations who are ripping us off.
I’m running to be a strong voice for affordable housing, with a solid track record of proudly advocating to both state and federal governments for greater investment in public and community housing in rural areas.
As a Greens candidate, I am pushing to double the number of public homes across Victoria, to provide affordable housing people feel secure in, so people can stay near their work, their schools, and their community.
Affordable housing no longer just applies to the rent you pay or the mortgage you owe, it also encompasses the cost of flood and bushfire risks to your home.
Climate disasters are impacting our communities and increasing our insurance premiums.
The Greens are the only party serious about climate action and lowering our energy bills.
I am proud to stand on a platform of banning gas drilling in Victoria’s oceans, and doubling taxes and royalties on coal and gas, to make fossil fuel corporations pay their fair share towards the problems they have caused.
I’ll also stand up for our communities against the government’s push for new AI data centres.
They threaten our energy and water, especially as regional centres like Bendigo and Shepparton are earmarked as potential locations.
This unregulated industry will keep Victoria hooked on coal and gas, consume huge amounts of water needed by communities and agriculture, and drive up our bills.
The Greens are pushing for a moratorium on new AI data centres until we have laws that protect our townships, environment and farming communities.
In many towns across Murray Plains are much loved, but very old swimming pools.
I grew up spending my summers at the local swimming pool and know how important they are: not only to young families and for our health, but also for keeping cool during heatwaves.
Yet government neglect of public services means these treasured spaces are becoming too expensive for councils to build, run, and maintain on their own, which is why I am fighting to deliver a statewide plan to fund and support aquatic facilities.
But most of all, I’m here to run a people-powered, community centred campaign, so the voices of people in Murray Plains really matter – not the big corporate donors calling the shots and driving up our costs.
We deserve a compassionate, hopeful future, with real solutions to the problems we face, and politics that finally works for us.
