WHEN Moama Anglican Grammar's Haylee Greenman competed at the NSW State Championships last year, it was the biggest moment of her young sporting career.

Now, her journey is set to take her more than a stone's throw away when she travels to North America as part of a Sports Travel Australia athletics tour in July.
The Tongala resident will compete in two regional events in Canada in three different events including discus, javelin and shot put.
And pulling on the green and gold is an honour she holds in the highest regard.
“It's going to be really exciting,” the 15-year-old said.
“I've only competed outside of Victoria once before so this is going to help make me a much better athlete. I'm going to give it my best shot.
“Whatever happens I'm just happy to be on the team.”
Haylee will be joined by a familiar face on the trip, with Bendigo Little Athletics teammate Caitlin Evans also selected.
“Having Caitlin will make me a lot less nervous,” Haylee said.
“I have never been overseas by myself so it is going to be very different. I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun together.”
While Haylee will contest three different events, javelin will always be her favourite.
“I've enjoyed doing it since I first started when I was 11,” she said.
“Because I used to do track events, doing javelin lets me keep the running component which I really enjoy.
“Athletics has been in my family forever because Mum and Dad were runners when they were in high school.
“And my sister Hannah was a long distance runner before she tried javelin. She's a year older but there was still a lot of competition between us.
“It's great we've got a family connection through the sport.”
While Haylee is looking forward to the trip to North America, her current focus remains with the Victorian championships in March.
“My goal is to win a medal,” she said.
“I wanted to finish in the top eight last year and I managed to do that, which was really good.
“There will be a lot of challenges but I'm confident with how I've been throwing the javelin lately.”
