The motion to adopt the plans was moved by Cr Gary Pappin and seconded by Cr Dennis Gleeson at MRC’s meeting on July 25.
The plans were developed through an extensive planning process which started in June 2025 and involved engaging community members online, at Moulamein Public School, and at in person forums, town walk-throughs, and workshops.
The master plan provides the long-term strategic framework for the township with the Community Action Plan identifying and prioritising ways to help actualise the community’s vision including updates to Morago St and town gateway improvements.
In moving the motion to adopt the plans, Cr Pappin thanked the people who’d run and engaged with the planning process.
“I was talking to a few of the locals over there about the master plan, and they were very chuffed,” Cr Pappin said.
“They’re very happy that MRC has finally taken notice of the Moulamein community and their aspirations and what they want for their future for their township and their little community.
“So well done to Bryce (Kilian, MRC’s director of sustainability and growth) and his team and the consultants, the mob out there are very happy.”
MRC Mayor John Harvie said that now the plans have been adopted, council’s focus would turn to progressing priority actions as funding and opportunities became available.
“These plans give us a strong foundation to advocate for Moulamein and to make sure future investment is targeted towards projects that will have a meaningful benefit for the community,” Cr Harvie said.
“The vision has been developed with the community, and now we have a clear pathway to work towards it.”
