People in Echuca-Moama are watching as the bridge gradually grows closer to meeting in the middle, scheduled to happen in October.
“Stage three of the Echuca-Moama Bridge Project is in a very exciting phase, with the main span of the new bridge over the Murray River gradually coming together,” Major Road Projects Victoria project director Damian Van Dyke said.
“Once the two sides meet, the bridge will measure an impressive 622 m across the Murray River floodplain, sitting 15 m above the riverbanks.”
Workers on stage three of the project have clocked up around 465,000 hours of work since the contract was awarded in October 2019.
The main section of the bridge is being built using a balanced cantilever construction method, meaning it could be built across from both banks at the same time without the need for a temporary support structure in the middle of the river.

The bridge is one of five being built as part of stage three of the Echuca-Moama bridge project, with two new crossings over the Murray and Campaspe rivers, two flood relief bridges and a separate shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians.
Stage four of the project will see upgrades to intersections in Moama to link the new bridge to Cobb Hwy.
It includes new traffic lights at the intersection of Cobb Hwy, Perricoota Rd and Francis St and a new intersection at Cobb Hwy and Meninya St.
The project is jointly funded by the Federal, Victorian and NSW governments and is on track for completion by mid-2022.
