The school has purchased a full professional DMX (Digital Multiplex) lighting system that includes 16 LED PAR cans, four Fresnels (a big white light that gives massive white light to a stage), four moving heads and a haze machine (for effects with smoke-like clouds).
The purchase also includes a lighting, stands, trusses and all necessary cables and cords.
The new equipment was first showcased during last week’s Deni Highlights performance at the Town Hall, run by students and staff who participated in workshops with the purpose-built entertainment Mobile Training Unit.
The lighting will now be used for school productions and community events.
Deniliquin High School’s head teacher of Creative and Performing Arts/Technology Matt Kiley said student training in lighting would also continue.
“Hopefully we will be able to offer VET (Vocational Education and Training) entertainment as a subject at the school down the track, but even having the lighting now is great,” he said.
“We’ve been building up our school audio system for a long time, and we do community events like the Rotary Carols in the Park. We’ve done audio and sound equipment for that for many years.
“Obviously last year we couldn’t. Because of the fire we couldn’t get to our gear.
“But now having this lighting will add to what we can provide when we do those bigger events.
“The council has already spoken to me about possibly doing some stuff in the town hall next year, where we could use the lights and have the kids come operate the crew.
“It gives us a chance to use them at school for those school events, but it gives kids opportunities to work in the pro scene in supporting community events as well.”
