Search continues for missing boater

The search for a missing man has resumed this morning on the Murray River at Moama.

A multi-agency search, which started on Tuesday, January 14, is for a missing boater, a man believed to be in his 20s.

About 7.30pm yesterday, officers from Murray River Police District and officers from Victoria Police responded to reports of a man who had fallen from a boat and did not resurface near Five Mile boat ramp at Moama.

Police and other agencies, including volunteers from Marine Rescue Moama spent one hour and 45 minutes searching a section of the Murray River for the man on Tuesday.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Stuart Massey said the service was alerted just after 7.30pm that a man from a boat was last seen on the Murray River near Five Mile boat ramp at Moama.

“A volunteer crew was quickly assembled and Marine Rescue NSW vessel Moama 20 deployed,’’ he said.

Moama 20 conducted numerous sweeps of the area under the direction of NSW Police Marine Area Command.”

The crew was stood down for the night on Tuesday at 9.45pm.

The search resumed this morning at 7am.
