This is exactly what organiser Letitia Edwards had in mind when putting together the Gunbower Spring Market ― kicking off at 3pm and going on until sunset on October 10.
Clearly, they struck the right chord — the not-so-early-bird market is back by popular demand.
Letitia owns the Gunbower Butter Factory ― where the event is being held ― and said “it’s a really nice way to bring different people from different walks of life and have a nice afternoon together,” she said.
On the afternoon start time, Letitia said they wanted to offer a different experience to a traditional morning market.
“It’s really fun to go to a market in the morning, but how nice is it to be able to go in the afternoon and have a beer or a cocktail,” she laughed.
The free event will showcase 20 stallholders — among them local makers Artisan Acres, Jess Wood Candles and Hope Made Pottery, all celebrating the best of regional craft and creativity.
Circle T has donated locally sourced lamb to help keep the meals affordable for families, starting from $15.
Wattle Creek Catering, based locally in Torrumbarry, is bringing the paddock-to-plate experience to life with a menu of lamb souvlaki, lamb with vegetables, and lamb with couscous.
Brad O'Brien from Tiamo Twin Flames will also serve pizza at discounted prices ― thanks to a generous donation from Garner Smith.
The Torrumbarry Fishing Club will also run a sausage sizzle, along with its number one raffle for the year.
The ever-popular casting competition is also back — for just $1, participants can try their luck casting a lure into a floating bucket on Gunbower Creek, with prizes up for grabs.
Kids will also have plenty to keep them busy, with a craft zone, dinosaur dig and other activities planned.
Letitia said highlighting local producers and makers had never been more important.
“I think social media has become a little bit of white noise for everyone and I think people really need a bit of a break and some connection time,” she said.
“I think it’s never been more important for people to get together and actually experience what our amazing communities have got to offer in different makers and creators.”
Above all, Letitia hopes visitors leave having enjoyed a leisurely afternoon alongside the beautiful Gunbower Creek.
“It’s one of those events that’s just a cruisey afternoon,” she said.
“You’ll get to have a really nice appreciation for spring, the nice weather, and Gunbower and the creek.”
