More than 100 people flocked to Echuca Wharf for a strong opening to the weekend-long celebration of culture, creativity and community.
Bathed in the fading light of a balmy spring evening, the riverfront came alive as locals and visitors gathered beside the Murray for the festival’s opening event.
The launch featured a Welcome to Country from Uncle Rick Ronan before crowds were entertained by Yorta Yorta singer-songwriters Madi Colville-Walker and Benny Walker as well as ARIA Award-winning musician Dan Sultan.

Festival of Stories chair Christy O’Brien said the event was created to connect people through storytelling in all its forms.
“This is a festival like no other, with headline Australian artists featured alongside local creatives in storytelling events, workshops and experiences,” she said.
“Everyone has a story to tell, and through this festival we're creating a platform to celebrate the ancient art of storytelling in a modern world.”
The festival continues throughout the weekend with a diverse program including creative writing workshops, a journalism forum, poetry events, cultural weaving, nature walks and experiences celebrating food, Country and community.
