Greater Shepparton City Council awarded a new five-year contract to Orikan Australia Pty Ltd for parking enforcement services at the October council meeting for an estimated value of $7,163,118.60 including GST.
The total cost includes an $811,050 one-off asset cost for new parking infrastructure, including 83 parking meters, 55 virtual parking meters and around 500 parking sensors in timed bays.
The new parking meters will replace existing ones, and council has confirmed that there are no new paid parking areas or changes to the cost of parking.
During the council meeting, multiple councillors spoke about the desire of the community to retain the ability to use cash for parking payments.
Tender submissions were assessed against a range of criteria, including value for money, technical capability, customer service, sustainability, risk management and benefits to local business.
Mayor Geoff Akers said the new service would provide better data and insight to help manage parking demand.
“This investment will provide modern technology and improved services that help ensure parking spaces are used fairly, encouraging turnover and making it easier for people to access local businesses, services and key destinations,” Cr Akers said.
“The contract has been developed to support continued growth across Greater Shepparton while ensuring our parking network remains safe, fair and effective.”
