Since the organisation was founded in 1976, it has been providing retirees (or semi-retirees) with opportunities to meet new people, build lasting friendships, share experiences and enjoy an active and fulfilling life.
“Reaching this 50-year milestone is a wonderful achievement and a tribute to the vision, dedication and enthusiasm of members who have built and sustained Probus over the years,” club spokeswoman Helen Taverner said
She said Probus had assisted tens of thousands of retired Australians to stay socially connected and to foster new friendships after leaving the workforce.
“Social connection is a key contributor to wellbeing, mental health and quality of life, particularly as people age,” Helen said.
“Research consistently shows that strong social connections are linked to better mental health, wellbeing and life satisfaction.
Maria Chappell, Helen Taverner, and Cheryl Campion were having a good time at their club's 50th Probus anniversary.
“Our members have shared countless morning teas, lunches, outings, guest presentations, trips and special occasions – and more importantly, members have supported one another through the many chapters of life.”
Helen said to mark the milestone, her club chose to hold a lunch at the Moama RSL Club and engaged Hilary Ogden to entertain members throughout the afternoon.
