Water tower work

This work is not related to the Do Not Drink Advisory issued in Elmore over Christmas.

This $1.1 million investment will increase storage capacity and improve water pressure for the town.

Acting chief officer assets and operations Julian Bull said residents may notice additional workers, vehicles and some machinery near the tower during this time.

‘’In recent months, we completed work to repair and rehabilitate the tank’s support structure, and the tank is now being refilled to be used as part of Elmore’s drinking water network,’’ he said.

‘’The improved water supply network in Elmore includes three 50 KL ground-level tanks and a booster pump station installed in 2022 to maintain the town’s water pressure.

‘’These new tanks will be the primary water source for the town, with the elevated water storage tank to act as a secondary supply source in times of high-water demand.’’

As part of the refilling process, chlorine must be added to the elevated water tank for disinfection following the repair work in the tank.

The drinking water supply remains safe to drink and meets all health-based aspects of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Elmore customers may notice a change in taste or odour of their drinking water in coming weeks as water from the tank moves through the Elmore water supply network.

‘’If you have chlorine sensitivities, we recommend putting a jug of tap water in the fridge for around 10 minutes and the chlorine taste will dissipate,’’ Mr Bull said.

“Allowing the water to aerate for a period of time will also reduce any chlorine odour.

‘’The addition of chlorine is a temporary measure and is not part of the usual water treatment process for Elmore, which is ultraviolet disinfection.’’
