Donald Trump is famous for his attacks on “fake news”. With these things in mind, is it any wonder that we become suspicious of claims which may be difficult to verify?
Long before the emergence of digital information platforms came about, a claim was made which has caused controversy ever since.
Around 2,000 years ago a man appeared in Israel as a wandering preacher who claimed to have been born as the Son of God, and Saviour of the world.
Many people at that time dismissed the claim as being ridiculous, and many more since then have jumped to the same conclusion.
The fact that Jesus Christ existed as a real person is probably one of the best recorded historical facts in the history of the world, but what about His claims?
The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is recorded in the four Gospels in the Bible, and one of the Gospel writers is a man named Luke.
Even though it seems that Luke did not meet Jesus personally, he came to faith in the claims of Jesus because of the evidence of many people who had.
Luke begins his Gospel by telling us that he had gone to great lengths to gather eyewitness accounts from reliable people who had come to faith in Jesus as Saviour because of their interaction with Him (Luke1:1-4).
Luke wished to record for others, those things which could lead them to faith in Jesus also.
Luke came to faith in Jesus not just because of the evidence, but by a decision to act on the evidence.
We have no shortage of reliable recorded evidence of who Jesus was and is, but unless we believe that for ourselves (as millions before us have done) it remains as just information.
