A MAN has been arrested following an aggravated carjacking and pursuit in Echuca this morning.
It is alleged the man confronted a delivery driver, a 32-year-old Kialla man, with a sharp-edged weapon on Anstruther Street before stealing his white Ford Transit van about 5.10am.
Police responded and pursued the van along the Murray Valley Highway, north of Echuca, before terminating the pursuit minutes later.
Officers spotted the van again shortly after and followed it from a distance, south on Anderson Road into Benson Road, before the van became wedged stuck under a railway bridge.
The man fled from the van, running across several paddocks chased by Campaspe detectives, a Campaspe Highway Patrol officer and Echuca uniform officers, before being pepper sprayed and arrested.
A 31-year-old Kyabram man is currently in hospital under police guard for a pre-existing medical condition and will be interviewed at a later date.
