Excitement as bowls returns to Moama Bowling Club

By Brayden May

BOWLERS braved a wintery blast earlier this week as the greens re-opened at Moama Bowling Club.

For many, this was their first opportunity to play in more than two months and they weren’t going to miss the opportunity.

Riverine Herald photographer Cath Grey was on the scene to capture some of the action.

Here are some of the bowlers reactions to returning to the greens.

Wayne Stephenson

“It’s very good, especially for my wife (Marilyn) because she was driving me nuts at home wanting to get out on the bowling green.

“We played our last game on March 8. She brought herself a new set of bowls, so she has been busting to get out and give them a go.

“Bowls isn’t just about the game itself, the social side of it is just as important and to have that back is exciting.”

Marilyn Stephenson

“It feels like you are a beginner again.

“We’ve been doing a bit of bike riding and walking to keep ourselves busy but to play bowls again is something I’ve been looking forward to.”

Deana Hogan

“The exercise is good but seeing all our mates is better.

“I last played the week before the pennant grand final, which we didn’t get to play, so it feels like it was a long time ago.

“With all the guidelines that are in place, you do feel very safe to be out on the greens when everyone is doing the right thing.”

Jim Hogan

“It’s great to be back on the green in the fresh air and seeing a few familiar faces.

“I haven’t been able to bowl in the past few months so I’m enjoying being out and about.

“I’m going to try and get down as much as possible to sharpen up my game.

“But the main thing is that we all feel very safe.”
