For Christy O'Brien and Jamie Horkings, it is easily put into perspective.
The Echuca siblings are taking part in the Starlight Foundation Super Swim, a virtual swim event to raise money to support sick children.
With the support of the Echuca-Moama Barracudas - an open water swimming group founded by the pair - O'Brien and Horkings have committed to swimming 14km in 30 days for the cause.
“A friend of mine in Newcastle does an ocean swim with a group up there,” Christy said.
“They're taking part in the Starlight swim as a women's team and have raised $10,000 so far, and they asked me to join them remotely.
“Jamie obviously can't be a part of the team, but he's chosen to take part in the event as well separately.”
The Barracudas were unofficially formed six years ago by O'Brien and Horkings following the latter's return from Perth.
The group has since grown to 20 unofficial members taking to the water three to four times a week between October and April.
“During the (COVID-19) pandemic, open water swimming has gained a lot of popularity,” O'Brien said.
“With pools closed due to the health restrictions, the river has been the one place people have been able to regularly swim.
“There has been a massive increase in wetsuit sales as people looked for a better way to exercise.”
On top of their regular swimming events, some of the group's members, including O'Brien, will take part in the Wharf to Winery on Sunday as part of the Echuca-Moama Multisport Weekend.
“It's a great event to be a part of,” O'Brien said.
“Hopefully we are able to have a great day and raise some money for a fantastic foundation.”
