Social bowls last Monday had 24 starters for the Pastoral Hotel sponsored triples with the winners being Daryl LaVelle, Anna Meyer and Ray McDonnell (2+53).
In second place were Jim Ferrier, Steve Campion and Bruce Haines (2,51) on a countback from Frank Gumbleton, Deb Chancellor and Joan Dovaston (2,51).
Tuesday’s ladies social bowls saw a small field take to the greens with no prizes awarded.
Anyone wanting a relaxed roll of bowls are more than welcome to come along and participate.
Thursday jackpot pairs saw 14 teams take part in ideal conditions.
The winners were the Kyabram pair of Brian O’Meara and Rob Anset (11) from Lockington's Andrew Harris and Ray Hanson (7).
Best one game went to Paul Leach and Terry Muller (27). What happened in the second game?
Congratulations to John Blair, John Brown, Maurie Hately (Kyabram) and Greg Chalmers (Colbinabbin) for travelling to Elmore on Thursday and winning the honour board event.
Blairy was brilliant, he said.
Mid-week pennant has been divided into two sections for the rest of the season based on the finishing position of each team and results did not go our way last week.
In A Section, White lost to Moama Green by four shots, winning only the rink of Leica Roney (s), Pat Schram, Louisa Dean and Di Payne (16-14).
In B Section, Blue went down to Tongala by seven shots, again only winning one rink of Bernie Johns (s), Anne Vanderkley, Linda Ormando and Jaqui Millar (19-17).
In weekend pennant, division one hosted Mathoura under lights on Friday night in perfect conditions and after an intense struggle managed to scramble home by four shots, winning two of the three rinks.
Matt Liverton (s), Jim Ferrier, Trevor Liddell and Matt Brighton (7) were best closely followed by Dennis Compton (s), Steve Cunnington, Gary Armstrong and John Dinsdale (5).
Division two travelled to Mathoura on Saturday to take on the top side but returned home losing by 17 shots and winning only the rink of Michelle Cunnington (s), Ian Whiting, Lal Whyte and Carlie Taylor (2).
Division three hosted Rich River and consolidated their position in the top four although they only won one rink being Tony Deenen (s), Nathan Beecroft, Ron Payne and Robyn Tooley ( 9) for a six -hot margin overall.
This rink were level with their opposition at 11-all after 17 ends but picked up 11 shots in the next three ends to double their score and get the team home.
Division four visited Rich River who were only two points behind them on the ladder and were soundly beaten by 19 shots although they won two of the three rinks.
Best rink was that of John Simpson (s), John Cowan, Paul Leach and John Kelly (8).
They have now dropped to third position and if they don’t defeat fifth team Tongala at Tongala on Saturday in the last round of the home and away for that division they could miss the finals after being on top three weeks ago.
Several Echuca bowlers are involved in CVBD Champion of Champions Day at Moama on Sunday and it is hoped that they will have plenty of support from club members.

The Chemist Warehouse sponsored tournament for Echuca members only is to be held on Monday, February 15 at 5pm with single entries to Rhonda Gallagher.
A medley mixed pairs tournament sponsored by Echuca Racing Club is scheduled for Sunday, February 28 commencing at 9.30am.

Lockington
There was a big weekend of bowls at the club with both pennant divisions at home on Saturday and the huge roll-up for the popular Cunnington Cup 2x4x2 Mixed Pairs on Sunday.
In CVBD weekend pennant both division three and division four recorded victories over their respective opponents Rochester Red and Mathoura.
In the division three victory 66-47, all rinks were successful.
Rink details: Ian Johnson def. A. Gusak 20-16; Ray Hanson def. G. Chambers 21-14; Russell Shawcross def. F. Keech 25-17.
Division four defeated Mathoura 62-39 with two rink wins and a tie.
Rink details: Frank Chugg drew with W. Cowley 13-all; Ken Main def. J Dean 18-13; Kalvin Stout def. J Toomey 31-13.
On the pennant ladder both division three and division four are holding down fourth position.
On Sunday, the club held the popular Cunnington Cup 2x4x2x Mixed Pairs attracted a field of 64 quality bowlers.
There were visitors from Bendigo, City of Echuca, Colbinabbin, Elmore, Mathoura, Moama, Rich River, Rochester, Stanhope and several local members.
The winners were decided on a points system and there were seven three game winners.
There was plenty of excitement when the local pairing of Denise “Happy” Gilmore and Owen “Smiley” McPhee were announced the winners on 80 points plus 30 shots ahead of the Stanhope pair of Jenny Crilly and Barry Fletcher with 80 points plus 23 shots.
Down the line were Pam and Stan Limbrick (Mathoura, 78 points), Lorna Wilson and Greg Chandler (Colbinabbin–Elmore, 78), Annette Brereton and Les Brereton (77), Sandra and Merv Harvey (76), Anne Lowrie and Bill Musgrove (74).
Special competition winners included Ron Jones (Moama), Phillip Cunnington and Annette Brereton.
Both Gilmore and McPhee will have their names etched on the magnificent shield.
Tournament secretary Chris Stewart thanked the Cunnington family for their continued support.
Phillip Cunnington responded on behalf of the family.
Club president Ray Hanson thanked the women for the delightful afternoon tea and manning the raffle ticket sales.
The greens staff of Kevin Humbert and Les Brereton were acknowledged for the effort in preparing the excellent greens.
A very successful day of bowls.
The third round of barefoot bowls was contested by 34 players on Tuesday evening.
The winning trio were Jeff Carnie, Ian Scurrah, Steve “Knockers” Nolan (s) on plus 17 shots.
Next in line was the team of Jacob Haines, Ian Haines, Dean Cook (s) 16 with Andy Harris, Sue Harris, Josh DiAngri (s) in third place on 15 shots.
The next round will be held on Thursday, February 18 at 7pm.
Names to be listed by 6.45pm.
During the week members competed in the 60 and Over competition at Moama plus the annual Elmore tournaments on Tuesday and Thursday.
Overall there was not much success, but two wins out of three games sounded the “norm”.
The previous Sunday, Denise Gilmore competed in the CVBD State Novice Singles held at Rochester.
Gilmore played brilliantly to qualify for the CVBD play-off against Louisa Dean (City of Echuca) to be held at the Moama Bowling Club this coming Sunday along-with all state disciplines starting at 9am.
This day will provide an excellent display from our CVBD bowlers.
In the club championship competitions, Dave Thomas was in fine form to defeat club champion Russell Shawcross in the first round of the Presidents trophy 21-up with a score of 21-16 while Tom Davis proved too experienced for Leon Laffy 21-15.
Bill Musgrove was too good for Steve Peter.
The club held the weekly barbeque and practice session on Friday evening.
The lucky members draw favoured Owen McPhee.
The club will hold the annual Twilight Mixed Fours on Tuesday, February 16 starting at 5pm.

Vale – Merv Lewis
It is with deep regret that we record the passing of Merv on Saturday, February 6.
From the time he joined he wanted to help make the club stronger and encouraged all to become the best they could be.
His coaching of our mid-week pennant team and his input has been missed as he has fought the good fight to stay with us as long as he could.
To Pam and family, we send our sincere condolences for your loss, we are all the better for having known him as a friend and a teammate.

Rich River
The weekend's round of pennant got off to a great start on Friday, February 5 with the mid-week team winning all three rinks against Elmore.
This Friday (February 12) they are at home to Mathoura and look forward to the winning momentum continuing.
Ladies social bowls held on Tuesday, February 2 were played in challenging windy conditions with winners on the day being Lyn Barker, Moira Thomas, Lyn Kingston and Heather Freeman.
Runners-up were Virginia Noar, Wilma Williams and Chris Peachey.
The 100-up ladies preliminary games have been completed and the final will be contested between Liz Easther and Toni Beck at a date to be confirmed.
The draw for the Ladies 21-up is on the locker room message board with the first round to be played on Tuesday, February 9 along with social bowls for those not competing.
The weekend pennant teams had two of the four teams winning on Saturday February 6, being divisions two and four, and narrow defeats in division one and three.
Divisions three and four play their last home and away games this coming Saturday, February 13 and both could be featuring in the first week of the finals scheduled for Saturday, February 27.
Divisions one and two have an extra round to play on Saturday, February 20 due to less teams in the draw.
The men's 100-up third round is due to be completed by this Sunday, February 14 so please arrange your matches during this week.
The men's pairs entries close on Sunday, February 14 and the sectional games will be held on Sunday, February 21 the draw for which will be released during that week.
The men's 21-up entries close on Wednesday, February 17 and the draw will be released for that shortly after.
This coming Sunday, February 14 our club is well represented in the CVBD Finals to be played at Moama, commencing at 9.30am.
And we are encouraging our members to go along and support our bowlers.
At 9.30am on rink six, Stan Barker and Trevor Nagorcka play in the 60 and over state pairs and on rink seven, Darryl Weymouth, Peter Nesbitt, Colin Hayes and Gerry Devlin contest the men's state fours.
At 1pm on rink four, Peter Nesbitt plays in the CVBD Champion of Champions and on rink five, Trevor Nagorcka contests the men's state singles.
Those from our club who use a Bowlers Arm have an opportunity to attend a workshop, courtesy of a grant secured by CVBD, free of charge, to be held from March 4 by Barry Ansett from Bendigo East Bowling Club, the details of which are yet to be confirmed.
A sheet has been placed on our notice board on which to enter your details at your earliest possible opportunity if you wish to attend so days, times and venues can be co-ordinated.
A Rich River Bowls Club members meeting is being held on Tuesday, February 16 at 2.30pm in the Tataila Room, to which all our bowlers are encouraged to attend, and raise any matters that require discussion or clarification.
Entries for our ladies prestige fours and men's Norm Knopp tournament on February 24 and 25 respectively, are quite low so we ask all members as they move around to other clubs to promote our events as they attend their venues.
Jackpot Pairs on Wednesday, February 3 once again attracted 44 players of which six teams won both games.
1st: Darryl Wood and Gordon Kaeser - 56 points/12 shots up.
2nd: Joe Murphy and Graeme Moffat - 55 points/12 shot up.
3rd: Vic Woods and Ken Dashwood - 55 points/7 shots up.

60 and Over
The Campaspe Valley and District 60 and over bowls group held its Wednesday weekly bowls at Moama Bowls Club on February 3 on a warm and clear day.
In all 24 teams, that’s 96 players, competed for a chook and the Len Vine Shield.
Five teams had won three games then rolled off to within the yard stick.
The Kyabram team of Les Grills, Mitch Steven, Neville Walters, and Greame Woodcock were the winners on the day with five bowls near the jack and were presented with the Len Vine shield by his daughter Joy Barnes.
A Rochester team had four bowls within the yardstick to come second.
They were Bert Smolenaars, Tim Quinlan, Graham Willis and Allan Benson.
Both teams members received a chook each.
We would like to thank Moama Bowls Club who have been great supporters of the 60 and over bowls.
Next Wednesday, February 10, 60 and over bowls is at Valley View Bowls Club with a 10am start.
