BEST wishes from our club go to our mid-week White team, which takes on Mathoura at Mathoura on Friday morning in the A section grand final.
Monday’s social bowls sponsored by the Pastoral Inn was won by Daryl LaVelle, Bluey Charman and Doug Goldsworthy (2+52) from Trevor Rickard, Deb Chancellor and Steve Nolan (Knockers) (1 34).
Thursday’s jackpot pairs saw 48 players take part, with five teams winning both games.
The best were Lal Whyte and Carlie Taylor (21) on a countback from Peter and `Chooka’ Tinning.
The best one game went to Don Hicks and John Kelly (15).
Last Friday, 144 school students took to our greens with St Mary’s having four teams, Echuca Primary School two, Echuca East Primary four and Twin Rivers two.
After a round-robin of eight games, the winners of pool A were St Mary’s A, while the winners of pool B were Echuca East PS.
Thanks to all members who assisted during the day.
We were represented by a number of teams at Sunday’s Tongala Tinnings-sponsored two-bowl triples where the team of Ivan Hicks and Gayle Kerr from our club and Beryl Murray of Mathoura were the only four-game winners and took out the prestigious event.
The Tinning family has been, and still is, an enormous contributor to bowls in the area.
In club events, Rhonda Gallagher and Lee Beattie defeated Anna Meyer and Belinda Chong to win the ladies’ pairs.
Steve Cunnington and John Dinsdale defeated Matt Liverton and Matt Brighton to win the men’s pairs, and Leica Roney defeated Louisa Dean in the ladies’ 21-up final.
Lee Beattie is to play Louisa Dean in the ladies’ 100-up final.
Midweek pennant grand final team (Echuca White): M. Cunnington (s), K. Gillingham, B. Cook, R. Tooley; R. Opie (s), K. Evans, L. Beattie, S. Proctor; L. Roney (s), P. Schram, L. Dean, D. Payne. Emergency: R. Gallagher.

Lockington
Last Tuesday evening, the club attracted 41 players for the popular barefoot bowls including several LBU netballers, who enjoyed the experience.
On the night, the trio of Fleur Gilmour, Lloyd Buchanan and Jeff Carnie (s) won the spoils with two wins, 15 shots ahead of John van den Bosch, Chase McDonald and Ian Scurrah (s), two wins, 12 shots.
Next in line were Steve Peter, Pauline Humbert and Bill Musgrove 12 shots; Phillip Cunnington, Duane Cunnington and Peter Eade (s) 9 shots; and Kelsie Chambers, Liam Hemsworth and Jacob Haines (s) 6 shots.
It was a very successful night.
There was not much luck with the 60 and Over results as our usual large contingent failed to win many games.
A squad of members travelled to Barham for the two-day two-bowl triples during the week.
Don Isgro, Brian Kinnane, Ray Hanson and Russell Shawcross (s) won a few games, but fortunately picked up a best second game win to pay for expenses.
Club competitions continued with Owen McPhee defeating Leon Laffy and Kalvin Stout beating Andrew Harris in the president's trophy.
Meanwhile Leon Laffy proved too consistent for Dave Thomas in a round of the men's 100-up championship.
In the women's 100-up president's trophy championship Sue Harris defeated a gallant Margaret Dowie 100-90 to move into the semi-final.
Our pennant players competed in a full-on practice match on Saturday in preparation for the assault on the CVBD preliminary final against Moama on Saturday at Rochester Bowling Club.
Best of luck to all teams.
Congratulations to all CVBD bowlers who contested the Bendigo-Campaspe Regional State championships held at Bendigo East Bowling Club.
On Sunday there were several CVBD bowlers competing.
Marilyn Stephenson was in fine form to beat Taylah Marron 25-12 in the women's state singles and then followed it up by defeating Carmel Jensen (White Hills) in a real battle 25-19 in the Champion of Champions event.
Another winner was the mercurial Jim Hogan in the Over 60 singles.
Pitted against Wayne Marwood (South Bendigo), Hogan warded off a persistent Marwood with some extremely well-weighted shots and pristine draw bowling to win the game 21-18.
The Rich River rink comprising Gerry Devlin, Colin Hayes, Peter Nesbitt and Dale Weymouth (s) combined brilliantly to defeat the composite four of L. Hoskin, G. Woodward, M. Hocking and A. Brown (s) 22-11 after 17 ends.
All four Rich River bowlers contributed and left the skipper a small amount of trouble which he handled in a mean fashion when needed.
In the women's state fours, our composite rink of Chris Frampton, Jenny Tonta, Chris Taylor and Joan Moss (s) played some exceptional bowls during the game against J. Ovenden, M. Bennett, V. White and L. Harris (s) (Bendigo), only to just get beaten 18-14 in a classic display.
Lee Schraner (Bendigo East) was a two-game winner on the day winning both the state singles and state Champion of Champions.
Two Rich River bowlers, Trevor Nagorcka and Peter Nesbitt, competed in the respective games and were gallant in their effort to defeat the stylish Schraner.
Nagorcka lost 25-15 with Nesbitt losing 25-14.
All winners will proceed to the BowlsVic State Championships to be held at Bendigo East Bowing Club in April.
On Friday evening, there was a well attended gathering at the weekly barbecue and practice session.
Lois Chugg was the missing link for the lucky members’ draw.

It is a great effort by both sides to make it through to a grand final.

Good bowling to all our players.
State bowls - ladies’ state fours
We had Joan Moss (Mathoura), Christine Taylor, Chris Frampton and Jenny Tonta (Deni RSL), playing in a composite side in Bendigo.
They lost their game by six shots.
It was a great effort by the four players in getting so far in the state games; you have done yourselves and your clubs proud.

Rich River
With three of our four teams safely through to grand finals, we now await the outcome of weekend pennant's Division 1 team, which will be playing against Mathoura on Saturday, March 13, at Echuca Bowling Club.
The mid-week Rich River pennant team in Division 2 will be lining up against Mathoura Blue on Friday, March 12, at Mathoura Bowling Club in the grand final.
We encourage our members to show their support by going to the venues and cheering them on.
Congratulations and all the very best of luck to our teams in their quest for success.
We had no teams playing in the CVBD Pennant at the weekend; rather, our attention was turned to the Bendigo Campaspe Bowls Region Finals, where Rich River members were represented in three of the events — which is an outstanding achievement for our small club.
It was great to have so many of our members at the venue supporting our players on the day.
Trevor Nagorcka, playing in the state singles, and Peter Nesbitt, playing in the Champion of Champions events, came up against Lee Schraner, a world ranked bowler, and both played very competitively, each managing to get within 10 shots in very high quality performances.
Our state fours team, comprising of Daryl Weymouth, Peter Nesbitt, Colin Hayes and Gerry Devlin defeated a Bendigo team in an outstanding skilful display of bowling to win their way through to the last 16 teams and will now contest the Victorian titles as champions representing our region.
This is a fantastic result for our club, and the region.
They will now move into games scheduled to be played early in May against both metropolitan and country teams, for which the venue and other details are yet to be confirmed.
Our numbers were down for jackpot pairs on Wednesday, March 3, but some excellent results were recorded.
1st: Vic Woods and Ron Bentley - 56 points/28 shots up.
2nd: Toby Egan and Graeme Williams - 56 points/14 shots up.
Repecharge: Gary Radford & Geoff Kiefel 7 shots.
60 and Over
The Campaspe Valley and District 60 and Over bowls group held its Wednesday weekly bowls at Valley View Bowls Club on March 3 on a cool but pleasant day.
A total of 20 teams, consisting of 80 players, competed for a chook.
Three teams won three games then rolled off to within the yardstick.
A Lockington team had four bowls within the yardstick to win the day. They were Ken Humbert, Leon Laffy, Andy Harris and Ian Johnson.
The runners-up were from Moama with three bowls near the jack. They were John Ryan, Brian Hill, Col Struthers and Ken O’Neill.
Both teams’ members received a frozen chook each.
Next Wednesday, March 10, play will be against Lockington with a 10 am start.
Entries to Neil Haines on 5486 8220 or John Van Den Bosch on 5486 2480, or on the sheet at Lockington Bowls Club.
