The GVCA Association Croquet Champion of Champions was held at Rich River on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
Day one saw the first round of games between entrants in section four.
The courts were full on Wednesday as the second round was played together with six games in sections two and three.
Rich River’s Kenn Boal is the section one winner (unopposed), section two was won by Louise Vale of Numurkah, section three by Russ Smyth of Rich River and section four by John James of Deniliquin.
Congratulations to all.
Louise, Russ and John will now represent the Goulburn Valley Croquet Association at the Country Regional Championships in Portland in April where they will be joined by Lyle Carey of Mooroopna who will fill in for Kenn who is unavailable.
In his presentation speech, GVCA president Kenn mentioned the presence of several new players and referees. With this resurgence of interest, the future of Association Croquet in the GVCA looks promising.
The club thanks all who contributed in making the competition a success.
Special thanks go to the grounds staff at Rich River Golf Club. The courts looked terrific and several of our visitors commented on their condition.
The Golf Croquet Champion of Champions will be held at Shepparton Croquet Club on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
Rich River will be represented by Russ Smyth, Ruth Mole and Kaye Joyce. Good luck team.
And the action will continue at Rich River next Friday with the AC Perpetual Trophy, a round robin competition between GVCA Clubs.
In club golf croquet play on Tuesday, 16 members played golf croquet doubles.
The winner was Anne Dodd on three wins and +13 nett hoops, while the runner-up was Cheryl Lees on three wins and nine hoops.
Jenny Muhlebach scored a hoop in one.
On Thursday, 14 members played golf croquet singles, with two players winning all three of their games.
The day's winner was Dave Maher with a nett hoop score of 10, and James Gunn was runner-up with eight hoops.
