Tocumwal bolted out of the blocks and fired 7.4 through the sticks in the term, the Blues languishing 39 points adrift with only 1.1 to their name.

The rest of the game was pretty even and Picola cut into the deficit in the second with four goals to three, reducing the margin to 31.

Another big quarter after half-time saw Tocumwal out by more than 50, before the Blues again won the final term for a final score of 16.12 (108) to 10.8 (68).

Now with a draw and seven defeats from its last eight, Picola United’s hopes of a late finals run look to be on life support.

The Blues trail the top eight by six points with four fixtures remaining, including two of the top four, Katamatite and Katandra.
