For his achievements not only in lawn bowls, but also in leadership roles in football and cricket spanning more than 65 years, Don received the Order of Australia Medal in 2015 and was later named Campaspe Shire Citizen of the Year in 2024.
As a mark of its deep appreciation, and on behalf of all members, the Board of the Echuca Bowls Club has honoured Don by renaming ‘A Green’ as the ‘Don Hicks Green’.
Congratulations Don!
Two days earlier, on May 26, Ian Page claimed the singles title in the 2026 state over 60s carnival held in Barham, a great achievement given the quality of the field and a noted absentee—get well soon, Di.
The result is proof that Ian has a solid draw game and the ability to perform under pressure, clawing back from an early deficit to win convincingly.
Ian thanks everyone for their support, in particular those who attended throughout the final series.
Well done Pagey.

Lockington Bowls Club
The game of scrounge is still attracting quality fields during the past week, with a bumper crowd on Wednesday where the weather was beautiful and the greens running true.
The high scoring was a delight to behold.
On rink one, Pos Andrea was in brilliant form to win, scoring 54 points against some tall timber in John van den Bosch, 48 points, and Ray Hanson, 37 points.
Next door, Terril Westwood tallied 53 points in a cakewalk against Leon Laffy, 32, along with Rod Fiedler, also 32 points.
Graeme Wood took out rink three after a fine score of 48 points and won a cliffhanger from Sue Harris, 47, and Ken Burn, 42.
Lorraine Appleby retained her recent display of brilliance to tally a solid 60 points and take the win from Owen Mc Phee, 48 points.
On the final rink, Steve Peter had the bowls on the right bias to grab the chocolates with a fine 52 points ahead of Kathi Maddison, 41, and John Dowie, 38 points.
On Saturday, the weather was a little doubtful until the sunshine began to appear midway through afternoon.
In a great display of vintage bowling, Ray Hanson was the winner with 48 points and gained revenge against Pos Andrea, 32, who outclassed Hanson on Wednesday along with John van den Bosch.
Steve Peter went back-to-back, scoring 38 points in a narrow victory over John van den Bosch, 36, and Rod Fiedler, 34, followed by John Dowie, 31 points.
Two bowlers who missed the draw were involved in a classic exhibition, with Ashley Dobell just finishing ahead of Alan Sharpe. The crowd were impressed with all the bowlers.
The scrounge will continue on Wednesday and Saturday, commencing at 1.30pm.
The club will celebrate the annual Johnno's Annual Pig on Spit day on Monday, June 8 (King's Birthday).
The meal will be served at 2pm, with bowls optional at 12.30pm - 10 ends.

Rochester Golf Club
Barbara and Brendan McCarty have been playing great golf over the past few weeks.
Living across the road from the golf course must have its benefits, or natural talent, or both, as Barb won last Friday's ladies stroke round and husband Brendan won Saturday's par event, both also winning over the tournament week.
Barb's score of net 67 and with 30 putts won her two prizes last Friday.
Julie Leahy was next best (68); Leisa Evans and Louise Evans were equal on 31 putts over 18 holes.
Karen Niven and Bree Cox are enjoying playing 18 holes this season while working toward their first official handicaps.
Williams was nearest to the pin on the third and 16th holes; Leahy to five, and Niven won for her nice shot to the eighth.
Elmore's Allan Campbell took out first place in last Wednesday's 9-hole event over the front nine, his solid 25 stableford points from the unlucky Mark Walsh on 24.
Bruce Bryant, Murray Schier, and Peter Anderson were next best on 22 stableford points.
As stated earlier, Brendan McCarty continued with his good form to win last Saturday's par event with an exceptional score of +6.
Les Hedington was on fire, running second with +5, also winning his second round singles match play event against Mark Walsh.
Walsh was on a high after watching his Carlton team defeat the much-fancied Geelong in the dying seconds of last Friday night's AFL game.
However, it wasn't to be, as Hedington easily won, while Steve Bubb beat Troy McInness 3/4 in the other quarter-final.
Chris Eeles finished third on +3, Zac McInness and Chris Trewin on +2, while Peter Anderson, Bruce Bryant, new member Andrew Cassin, and Neil Coghill were all on + 1, and Bubb played to his handicap to be square with the card.

Friday, May 29 — Stroke, Second Round Club Championships
There was a very close finish, with Annette Brereton returning the day’s best score of 87-17-70 to win the Lockington Foodworks Player of the Day voucher, on a countback from Sue Harris (99-29-70).
Fiona Newton was just one shot back in third with her nett 71.
Annette Brereton was in fine form with the putter, winning count the putts with just 26, ahead of Pauline Humbert (29).
After the first two preliminary rounds of the club championships (nett), Sue Harris (141) is the early leader from Annette Brereton (142), with both Fiona Newton (145) and Pauline Humbert (148) well in contention.
With the best three out of four rounds counting, the title is well and truly up for grabs.
Count the putts leader is also Sue Harris (57), with two excellent putting efforts.
Annette Brereton (60) has moved into contention, with three players next on 66 – Phyll Macfarlane, Pauline Humbert, and Fiona Newton.
Saturday, May 30 — Stableford Aggregate – Mystery Partners
After Saturday’s stableford round was played, partners were drawn and it was the very last pair drawn—Ron Dixon (33) and Kevin Humbert (35)—who finished with the best score of 68 points to win the Lockington Foodworks Supermarket Player of the Day vouchers.
Just one point behind with 67 were Jeff Carnie (32) and the in-form Tom Scurrah (35).
Nearest the pins: 16th – Tom Scurrah; second shot 13th – Trav Mancer, Ian Maddison, Tom Scurrah; second shot 18th for the 6-pack smack – Trav Mancer.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the 14th, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – Jason Wakefield, Neil Maddison, and JD Wright.
Neither the O’Connors Case Eagles Nest on the third, nor Captain Grant’s yardstick prize on the 16th was won.
