A two-week warning period will commence from June 15, advising drivers that parking restrictions along Murray Esplanade will soon be actively enforced.
Enforcement will commence from July 1, with Campaspe Shire Council saying the focus aims to improve regular turnover of parking spaces and access to shops and services along the waterfront precinct.
Current parking limits allow three hours on weekdays from 9am to 5.30pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, with no restrictions at other times.
Foundry Arts Centre volunteers have raised concerns about weekday monitoring, suggesting the area isn’t busy enough during those times to require enforcement.
The volunteers told the Riv during the week that the car park was often packed towards the library end, and empty towards the Port end of the stretch.
While they’ve been directed to use the Pump House car park (the former tourist information centre), volunteers say this location poses accessibility challenges for older members.
Volunteers worry that parking fines could discourage community members from contributing their time to the Foundry Arts Centre.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell said the change was due to concerns raised by local businesses.
“We’ve heard from businesses that limited parking turnover is impacting customers’ ability to access shops and services along Murray Esplanade and into the Port of Echuca precinct,” he said.
“This isn’t about introducing new restrictions — it’s about ensuring existing time limits are followed so more people can access this important area of our town.”
Along Murray Esplanade there are 96 parking bays stretching from Radcliffe St to Leslie St.
For those needing longer parking, unrestricted all-day spaces are available at these nearby locations: parts of Pump House car park; parts of Radcliffe St; and Marungal Jetty car park, Leslie St.
