The season got off to a slow start, with the EMUs suffering three close losses through the opening rounds.
However, the boys continued to turn up, put in the work and, importantly, enjoy their football.
That persistence paid off, with the club finishing the year strongly and producing some great football and some memorable wins.
A highlight of the season was the opportunity to play several double-header games with both the over 35s and over 45s teams playing on the same day.
These games provided plenty of competitive football while also showcasing the great camaraderie that exists throughout the EMUs.
The club would like to thank all the umpires who helped us get our games away throughout the year — Jeff, Kate and Mark.
We simply can't play the game without you, and your contribution is greatly appreciated.
Another big thank you goes to the committee, led by President, Jon Beach.
They have all worked hard throughout the year to keep the club running smoothly.
The work that goes on behind the scenes to keep a Masters football club running is significant, and the contribution from the committee has been a major part of another successful year for the EMUs.
A special mention must also go to our trainer Sharon, who once again, gave up plenty of time to look after the boys and keep everyone moving.
No mean feat in a team made up of blokes 35 yrs old and above.
The recent presentation night was a celebration of the season gone, remembering some of the fun times as well as honouring award winners and crowning the best and fairest players.
Over 35s Best and Fairest – Troy Ramsey (Gordo)
It was a great year from Gordo, both on and off the field.
As one of the club’s co-captains, Troy consistently led from the front and was a fantastic example for his teammates.
Over 45s Best and Fairest – Chris Hagen (Hages)
Another outstanding season from Hages, who claimed his eighth Best and Fairest award.
A remarkable achievement and recognition of his continued contribution to the club.
Club person of the Year – Troy Ramsey (Gordo)
It was a fitting way to cap off a fantastic season for Gordo, who was also recognised as the Club person of the Year.
Troy’s contribution went well beyond his performances on the field, with his leadership, commitment, and willingness to get involved making him a valued member of the EMUs throughout the year.
To take home both the Over 35s Best and Fairest and Club person of the Year is a fantastic achievement.
Life Membership – Damian Hammond (Damo)
A very well-deserved Life Membership for Damo, recognising more than 10 years of hard work and dedication to the EMUs.
His contribution to the club has been enormous, and it was fitting to see him receive this honour.
Trainers Award – Brett Lee (Binga)
After suffering a serious knee injury late last season, it was fantastic to see Binga back at training and, by the end of the season, back having a kick.
His determination to get back involved was great to see.
Bus Captain Award – Clint Jurey (Slowey)
Slowey was recognised for his hard work and dedication in ensuring all players were suitably hydrated while on bus trips, as well as his efforts across all aspects of the club throughout the year.
His contribution behind the scenes is greatly appreciated.
Tool of the Year – Lucas Walker (Walks)
There were plenty of moments throughout the year that Walks may prefer to forget and too many to list here.
A fitting recipient of the Tool of the Year award, proudly supported by our sponsor, Echuca Stihl Shop.
Burn Your Mates Award – Ash Formosa (Fish)
A well-deserved award for Fish after numerous occasions throughout the year where he managed to let his teammates down — all, of course, in the spirit of good-natured Masters football fun.
Best First-Year Player – Dan Moylan (Fat Head)
Fat Head has been a fantastic addition to the club.
He quickly fitted into the group and has carried on as though he has been an EMU for years.
A great first season, and we look forward to seeing plenty more from him.
Most Consistent (over 35's) - Matt Veitch (Veitchy)
Veitchy was recognised for his consistency both on and off the field, while also making a valuable contribution as an assistant coach throughout the season.
Coaches Award (over 35's) - John Arther (Kingy)
In his first year at the club, Kingy certainly made his mark.
His strong presence on the field and willingness to get involved made him a valuable addition to the EMU’s group.
Most Consistent (over 45's) - Drew Elliott
A very consistent performer across the halfback line providing numerous intercept marks and poise.
Drew polled votes playing in the over 35's games and had it not been for an injury causing him to miss games, would have challenged for the over 45's B&F.
He still finished 3rd only playing half the games.
Coaches Award (over 45's) - Paul Elso
After a strong pre-season, Elso was put in a few different positions to what he was used to playing this season and performed strongly in all, providing great flexibility for the coach.
A special mention must also go to coach Lucas Walker, who put in a huge amount of work throughout the season.
His time, effort, and commitment to coaching the boys is greatly appreciated by everyone at the club and it is fantastic for the club that he has committed to coach for the 2027 season.
Congratulations to all the award winners and, more importantly, well done to every EMU who pulled on the jumper throughout the year.
It was another great season for the club and a testament to the mateship and spirit within the group.
With the season now wrapped up, there isn't too much time to rest.
EMUs Echuca Masters pre-season kicks off on Wednesday, October 7 at 6pm at South Oval.
It’s a great way to keep fit, have a kick and, most importantly, have a good laugh with a great bunch of blokes.
Anyone over 35 is welcome to come along and have a look — whether you’re keen for a run, haven't played for years, or simply want to get involved.
The EMUs look forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces and some new ones when pre-season gets underway.
