Fabulous five for Blues

Tongala has picked up its third Murray Football League victory in a row, easily accounting for Deniliquin away in this weekend’s outing.

The Blues were all over the Rams at Hardinge Street Oval from start to finish, kicking five goals in the opening term and rampaging to a 15.13 (103) to 5.8 (38) result.

Those five majors were the first five of the game and Tongala had burst out to a 30-3 lead in blistering fashion, leaving Deniliquin scrambling.

The Rams pulled one back by quarter-time, but the Blues continued to build their lead through the second, going into the main break ahead by 31 points.

The momentum continued through the long break and Tongala added the first two goals of the second half and the game was essentially sewn up by three-quarter time with the margin approaching 50.

The Blues kept the onslaught going down the stretch kicking the last four of the game to lock up the points in style.

With Moama also losing in this round, Tongala is likely secure a finals spot, sitting fifth with a 10 and six record.

A block of teams on 10 wins stretches as high as second, with the Blues still in reach of the finals double chance, although they still have a bye to contend with in the remaining three weeks.

Before then the Blues return home against another of the contenders, Mulwala, a win over the Lions guaranteed to move Tonny up at least one more place.
