Goulburn Valley sprinter set for Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow

Donning the green and gold at the Scotstoun Stadium, she will also be representing her home region on the big stage - having first emerged to prominence as part of Echuca-Moama’s Little Athletics program.

From there, she has established herself as one of the world’s most prominent talents, forming part of the Australian women's 4x100m relay team that broke the all-time national back in 2024.

Her heroics as part of that team at the World Relays saw them qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she was a reserve.

Now, her attentions will turn towards making her mark in Glasgow, with the omens looking good for the Echuca-raised athlete ahead of her maiden appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

The Australian 4x100m women’s relay team raced to second place at the London Diamond League event held at the London Stadium - host venue for the 2012 Olympic Games - as they finished just behind Great Britain.

Putting in their final preparations before the Commonwealth Games, the contingent from the land down under will be left feeling confident of their chances of medalling in Scotland in the coming weeks.

Lane’s first event in Scotland will be the 100m sprint heats, planned for July 27, with the semi-final and final set to take place the following day.

In addition, the 4x100m relay will be staged during the final days of the event’s athletics program, due to end on August 1.

Taking to social media after being announced as part of Team Australia for the Commonwealth Games, Lane spoke of her pride as she prepares to represent her country in one of international sport’s most prominent events.

“Proud to have made my first Commonwealth Games where I will be racing in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay 24,” she wrote.

“It's been one of my best seasons yet and I'm excited to keep the momentum going. Forever grateful for my team and the ongoing support.“
