Murray Football League fans look set to find out this Saturday at Scott Oval.
Tongala and Cobram will put their undefeated status in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, in what shapes as a season-defining clash between two Murray Football League heavyweights.
The Blues hold a 20-game winning streak stretching back to round one last year, while the Tigers have bulldozed all in their path during the 2022 season, boasting a mammoth percentage of 450.
This is due to holding an eye-watering average winning margin of 115 points, but Cobram has faced just one side inside the top six this season.
Pre-season flag favourites Tongala still look likely to come into the clash as underdogs for the first time in a long time, but Blues coach Jordan Souter is confident his side is starting to find its best footy following big wins over Moama and Finley.
“We are travelling not too bad at the moment, I feel the last couple of weeks we have gotten back to our best footy against Moama and Finley, we are definitely turning the corner,” Souter said.
“With a lot of blokes coming in and out each week, we probably haven’t quite been at our absolute best, but we are hoping that we can put our best foot forward this week.
“Coming in as underdogs for the first time in a while it is going to be quite different, so we look forward to a cracking game of footy.”
The last clash between the two went down to the wire, with the Blues claiming a thrilling round three match-up last year by 14 points — Cobram’s most recent defeat.
After booting five goals against Finley and 18 total from two games this season, spearhead Darren Ewing will not take his place in the squad for the pivotal match-up due to work commitments.
Despite the loss of the star full-forward, Tongala looks largely unchanged, and Souter said a fast start for either side will be crucial in gaining the ascendancy.
“We are going to have to bring our team-first attitude with the footy, there are a lot of things we are going to have to do right to come away with the win,” Souter said.
“As long as we are in the game early and that our mindset and intensity is up early, which I couldn’t see being an issue, I think the key will just be putting them under pressure and taking the game deep into the last quarter.”
Tongala and Cobram will do battle at Scott Oval from 2pm this Saturday, May 28.
