Moama had the best weekend of the local sides, downing Rumbalara in the senior football and A-grade netball fixtures in their clash at Moama Recreation Reserve.
The Mowers scored a needed victory in the footy, improving to 3-4 with a 10.11 (71) to 5.13 (43) result.
Moama kept the Rumba attack in check, forcing tough looks at goal, while Dane Dickinson (3 goals) led the scoring effort.
A youthful Mowers netball side earned a significant win over the reigning premier 39-35, clinging to a slight edge throughout the four quarters to advance to 5-2.
Tongala is also 5-2 in Murray Netball League, having no trouble against struggler Congupna in a 77-16 win.
The Blues faced a tougher test in the football fixture, the dominant Road flexing their muscles once again to win 20.12 (132) to 9.6 (60), staying unbeaten for the year.
Tongala remains in the mix at 4-3.
Echuca United had a tough afternoon on the road, falling to powerful Nathalia outfits.
Inaccurate goaling didn't help the Eagles’ cause as the Purples surged to a 15.7 (97) to 4.10 (34) victory.
On the courts, United put in a credible effort against one of the title favourites, but after staying within striking distance for three quarters, the Purples were able to break away late to win 70-57.
The Eagles are winless from six matches to start their campaign, while the football side is 2-4.
In the Heathcote District league, Lockington-Bamawm United had the bye, while Leitchville-Gunbower travelled to Elmore with mixed success.
The club’s footy side scored a strong result to level its ledger at 3-3, prevailing 14.9 (93) to 7.10 (52).
It was a more difficult outing for the Bombers’ A-graders, falling 58-31 to the Bloods, who have now strung together consecutive wins after a winless start.
