Picola made a bright start in the seniors and A-grade, reeling off four straight victories in both sports.
However, as the weeks rolled on, and those vanquished sides showed themselves to be among the league’s strugglers, the Blues have each fallen to consecutive defeats against higher quality opposition.
Picola is still well within the finals race at 4-2, but will need to bounce back and pick up points against other mid-table sides if it hopes to remain in contention come finals time.
That could start this Saturday against Berrigan (3-3 in football and 2-4 in netball) a clash the Blues will value highly as a springboard for the rest of their year.
At Mathoura, both top-grade sides are also following the same trajectory, winless through their first six matches.
The senior side has shown signs of improvement after being well off the pace through 2025, but has yet to come within striking distance of its first points.
The A-grade squad has also had a difficult road, struggling to compete over the past few weeks after a couple of respectable defeats earlier in the year.
The club’s next opponent, Tocumwal, looks a moderate challenge in the seniors, the side 2-4, while the Timbercutters are likely up against it again in netball, as the Bloods boast a 5-1 record.
