Forget about the athletes, when it comes to a triathlon nobody beats Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club itself.
With its season kicking off on Wednesday night with a short-course duathlon (apparently there was an overwhelming agreement the river is still too cold) the club was already riding high.
In the Triathlon Victoria awards, the club from the Murray was nominated in the regional series (large club); event of the year for Multisport festival and regional series performance (large club).
And won them all.
The bikes lined up in the transition area for the opening race of the EMTC season.
The club is now one of two finalists in the Triathlon Australia award for multisport event of the year (500-1000 participants) with the winner to be announced next month.
But wait, there’s more.
Finlay Arnold and Jobe Murphy were also selected in the Triathlon Victoria state pathways program.
Club president Luke Barlow said these all represented an “astonishing recognition” of the work of a “very enthusiastic” club.
“We are very proud of the EMTC athletes as well as our hard-working committee,” Barlow said.
“And if anyone thinks they can spare an hour a week, or a month even, to take on some small jobs please reach out to the club, we would love to hear from you,” he said.
“We would also like to welcome you to our committee.”
Barlow said the club’s members were using the Wednesday night run “to blow out a few cobwebs” and get ready for the warmer weather – and warmer river.
The junior brigade assemble for a trial run at the opening night of the EMTC season.
“The adult course was a 1.2km run, 10km bike ride and 2.2km run to finish – and was a handicap event with competitors starting at different times,” he said.
“It eases us into the year and people will be starting to get serious about the coming months.”
