Isabella Crossman got off to a flyer to start her new year. The 13-year-old continued to add to her ever growing trophy cabinet at the 64th Tennis Victoria Inter-Regional Country Championships.
Crossman completed a trifecta as she won the 14-and-under singles, doubles and mixed doubles trophies with near perfect tennis. In the singles competition, Crossman dropped just one game for the entire tournament.
Crossman’s month only got better when she played at the 2020 Victorian Junior Grasscourt Championships in Wodonga.
In yet another tournament, Crossman dominated the singles category to storm to a tournament win without dropping a set. She also went onto win the doubles.
However, that was only the halfway point of a busy month for the Rich River star who helped Victoria to a second-place finish at the Judy Dalton Country Cup at Kooyong.
Her tournament was capped off after she won the sportsmanship and encouragement player award which was voted on by Western Australia and Tasmania.
Todd Murphy proved to be a world beater in January as a key piece of Australia’s U19 World Cup bid. The young off-spinner was one of his nation’s best with ball in hand, claiming four wickets in the main stage of the tournament in South African conditions that rarely lend themselves to spin bowling, particularly in one day matches.
But it was his performance with the bat in Australia’s third group stage match against England which grabbed headlines.
Coming to the crease at 8/206, with his team still requiring 47-runs to secure a spot in the quarter finals, Murphy made a 10-ball 16 as part of a 47-run partnership with fellow lower-order batsman Connor Sully to drag Australia over the line on the last ball of the match.
