There are some very big questions in life that we can ask, and a huge one is how should I live my life, what should I be doing?
While this is a big question, there is no shortage of answers offered with the self-help industry through books, tapes and other media offering answers.
It is an industry that generates worldwide over $40 billion a year, and yet, I want to put forward an answer and that answer is a shepherd.
This may initially sound a little crazy, weird even, but as Australians shepherds are not foreign to us.
We as a country were once called a nation that rode on the sheep’s back.
This may give us a funny mental image, but it meant that the wool industry in Australia was once what we were known for, we as a nation relied on it heavily for income.
While Echuca is mainly dairy, we don’t have to go too far into NSW and even Victoria to see the wool industry still plays a large part in the Australian life.
While wool, sheep and shepherds are known to us, how does a shepherd answer some of the big questions of life?
I am talking about more than an earthly shepherd, but did you know that God in the Bible is called a shepherd and does everything a shepherd does?
God provides for his sheep, us, by supplying our needs, by protecting us from harm and by giving us direction in life.
God is the perfect shepherd. So, if you are wandering in life, feeling lost and needing direction, seek God the good shepherd.
You can do this by reading the Bible and by talking to God, which is sometimes called prayer.
In your seeking I highly recommend you go to your local church as you will find others who are seeking and following God, others who can help and support you.
In a real way, the gate has now been opened for you, will you step through and find the answers you are looking for?
