Suspect detained after fatal stabbing at German bank

Two people who had been ⁠inside ‌with the ​suspect were brought out by heavily ​armed police ‌units, police said.

The victim ​suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident and later died in ​hospital, ​police said.

"We currently assume this was the act of a lone perpetrator," a police spokeswoman said.

The incident initially prompted fears that the attacker was holding people hostage, and police were unable to determine how many people remained inside the bank.

Investigators are treating the case as homicide and robbery. 

The suspect's motive was not immediately known.

Heavily ​armed police units, emergency ‌services and negotiators had been deployed to the scene, while a police helicopter circled overhead.

PNP cited police as ​saying that a search of ​the building ⁠was ongoing.
