Wednesday saw 28 teams enjoy an afternoon of bowling at Lockington.

112 bowlers in whites and club colours assembled on the two grass greens.

The Lockington greenkeeper had reported in sick and his replacement did a fine job preparing both greens for play.

The club stalwarts Roly Head and Kalvin Stout also did a grand job collecting fees and issuing the bowling cards.

As usual, in fine country style, the Lockington ladies prepared delicious sandwiches and raisin bread for afternoon tea.

There were four three-game winners who fiercely competed against each other.

The two Lockington bowling teams were as follows; Graham Hydon (s), Kevin Humbert, Ray Hanson and Graham Turner; Phil Collins (s), Frank Chugg, Al McPhee, Don Smith.

Both teams came off second best with only one bowl within the yardstick, leaving two teams in the final playoff.

Runner-up with three bowls within the yardstick was the team led by Barry Campbell, with Keith Tinning, Ian Tinning and Gordon Sellars.

Winner of the day was another team from Tongala skipped by Neville Mackerell, with Alan Davis, Stuart Reid and Brian Crilly.

It was a hot, sunny enjoyable afternoon.

Next game for this month is on Wednesday, November 29 at Tongala. Starting time 1pm.

Both these finals will be played on Sunday, December 10 in a combined finals day. We wish all finalists good bowling on the day.

Only one team had a two-game win – that being the team of Marie Stevens, Eileen Pineo, Sandra Harvey and Joyce Brereton.

Runners-up were Cath Mackenzie, Betty Linquist, Pat Reid and Naomi Burton. Moama Pharmacy sponsored the day.

Due to State Bowls commitments there is no midweek pennant this week.

Members are advised a practise and skills session will be held on Friday the 24th at 10am with coaching and advice available.
